About me
I am a writer and producer who has had success in television, books, magazine publishing, and motivational speaking. I love crafting stories and creating memorable content.
Born and raised in Newark, DE, I have always loved writing. With my passion for words, I have reached millions through my magazine, speaking engagements, books, films, TV show credits and my Black TV Film Crew online community.
People have long asked me questions about life, business, personal struggles, self-love, etc. I’ve spent my entire life going against the grain, fighting my demons, and walking the path less traveled. I’ve developed lots of good experience and knowledge to share so I decided to make my website about helping people and answering your questions.
Here are some of the ways I can help you:
- You have a business idea but you don’t know where to start. You’re confused about which first steps to take.
- You’re having trouble finding your own voice or what stories you’d like to tell in your business or in your life.
- You don’t know how to market yourself or make your business stand out in a crowd. You’re struggling on social media and just need some help to figure it all out.
- You’ve gone through some rough patches in your life and lost your self-confidence. You want to turn it around, but don’t know where to start.
- You want to change careers but don’t think you can. You don’t really know what to do but you’re tired of being where you are.
Did I always know these things? Nope. But then life happened and I started figuring it out.
Here are some of my greatest hits:
- When I wanted to get my foot into the entertainment business, I created a magazine learning from successful celebrities, artists and musicians.
When I wanted to become an author and was rejected by 100 agents, I created my own publishing imprint, Rolling Hills Press, then got a deal with Simon & Schuster for my first book, The Blueprint for My Girls.
- When I wanted to transition from books to film to television, I wrote and produced the award winning film, Can She Be Saved? and the film, Growing Up Positive, which aired on PBS. I eventually became a staff writer for Lace and a story producer on Cold Case Files.
- When I became a widow after the unexpected death of my husband, I had to rely on myself, raise my son, navigate college applications, relocate across country, sell my house… you name it. And I found a way to make more money after it was all said and done.
YasminShiraz.com is a place where people receive empowering and motivational content, solutions and guidance to help on your journey through life.
As I share my personal stories, articles, and craft digital courses to help us grow, I am building a community of like-minded people. The purpose of this site is to be a source of motivation and happiness as well as a resource to help this community navigate with self-development, personal values, finding your life purpose, productivity, work and decision making.
I believe everyone is unique and though life has a way of throwing us off of our true paths, I’m here to help you face the blocks that are holding you back.
Whether producing a television show or developing a film, docu-series, podcast, social media campaign or other product from a singular idea, I believe my gift is connecting to others and knowing what a powerful, transcendent story is and how to identify it.
My calling is to help others to uncover their gifts, helping them find their stories and their voices. The work often starts inside with building self-love, self-confidence, and decision-making skills. Once we hone who we are inwardly, we can bring our truest selves to the world.
It is in our authenticity that we find who we are supposed to be and how we are supposed to live.
I was in a studio in Burbank, CA producing Accident, Suicide or Murder for Oxygen. I have more than 10 true crime TV credits to my name, including writing for Cold Case Files.
I’ve long chronicled Hip Hop culture from my publication Mad Rhythms to producing MTV’s Hip Hop My House featuring Cam’ron. I live and breathe Hip Hop.
As suicide attempts rose nationally, I sat down with teens impacted by teen suicide. The project became a suicide prevention web series sponsored by the DC Dept of Mental Health.
After giving me a top ten award for my book, Retaliation, the American Library Association invited me to their annual convention to meet and connect with librarians.
When Fox News in Washington, DC wanted to run a story about retailers producing sexually suggestive bathing suits to pre-teen girls, they asked me to weigh in on the topic.
When I decided to write and produce a documentary about teen girls fighting, I met these girls in Syracuse and the film, Can She Be Saved? was born.
From these experiences and many others, I continue to grow and learn how to use my sense of connection and story telling to build a happy and fulfilling life.
My connection to you.
I believe in meaningful connections. Of all the billions of people on the internet, you’ve connected to me. That is powerful. I am a guide building community, helping others reach their goals and teaching transformative life improvement skills.
